In a festive atmosphere, the New York Bangladeshi American Lions Club District 20-R2 held its executive committee election for 2025, where JFM Russell was elected as President and Mashiuar Rahman Majumder was elected as Secretary. Mashiuar Rahman Majumder won the Secretary position by almost three times the number of votes, while JFM Russell secured the President position with 18 more votes. Many believe the long-standing, proven leaders of the organization have triumphed in this election.
The election took place on Tuesday, June 27, at Sanai Restaurant in Jackson Heights. The election ran smoothly from 6 PM to 10 PM, with 128 out of 136 voters casting their votes.
To ensure a well-organized election, a five-member election commission, led by attorney Moin Chowdhury, restricted entry to the voting center to voters and media personnel only during the voting process.
However, as the election progressed, the presence of voters and candidates gave the event a festive atmosphere. After the vote counting, at around 12:15 AM, the chief election commissioner informally declared the results. The peaceful and cordial interactions between the victorious and defeated candidates demonstrated the strong unity within the Lions Club.
In the competitive election, JFM Russell won the President position with 73 votes, defeating his opponent MS Alam, who received 55 votes. In the Senior Vice President position, AKM Abdur Rashid was elected with 79 votes. In the Secretary position, Mashiuar Rahman Majumder won with almost three times as many votes, securing 94 votes while his opponent Ahmed Sohel garnered 34 votes.
In the two Vice President positions, MD Ruhul Amin won with 92 votes, and Kamrul Majumder secured 60 votes.
Meanwhile, in the Director position, ASM Uddin Pintu won with the highest vote count of 100 votes. Other elected directors include ATM Helalur Rahman, MD Mofizur Rahman, Daisy Islam, Kamrul Hasan, MD A. Zaman, MD Monirul Islam, Mohammad Hossein Zakir, Mohammad MA Kashem, Mohammad Ehsanul Haque Babul, and Mohammad Akash Rahman, among others.
Additionally, several positions were filled uncontested এas Treasurer Masud Rana Tapan, Joint Secretary (Admin) Golam Haider Mukut, Joint Secretary (Project) Abu Bakkar Siddique, Tail Twister Jahangir Joy, Membership Chair Anisur Rahman Toni, Club Services Chair Mizanur Rahman & LCIF Onik Raj
After the results were announced, newly-elected President JFM Russell expressed his gratitude, saying, “This victory is for every member of the Lions Club. My goal is to unite everyone and move the organization forward.”
Newly-elected Secretary Mashiuar Rahman Majumder also thanked the election commission for conducting a smooth and fair election and called for cooperation from everyone to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them throughout the year.
Many believe the results reflect the support of the voters for the long-term leaders who have consistently moved the Lions Club forward organizationally.
At the conclusion of the election proceedings, Chief Election Commissioner Moin Chowdhury thanked the candidates, voters, and media personnel for their cooperation in ensuring the election was conducted fairly. Voters congratulated the newly-elected President, Secretary, and the entire committee with flowers, and the election process concluded with a celebratory reception.
