New York, May 19 – The New York State unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has undertaken extensive preparations to observe the 44th martyrdom anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman with due solemnity and respect. A preparatory meeting was held on the evening of May 19 to finalize plans for the upcoming commemorative programs.
As announced, a special prayer gathering (doa-mahfil) and memorial assembly will be held on Friday, May 30 at 4 PM at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights, marking the anniversary of the leader’s death.
The preparatory meeting took place in a community hall in Jackson Heights and was presided over by Maulana Oliullah Atikur Rahman, President of the New York State BNP. The meeting was moderated by the party’s General Secretary, Saidur Rahman Saeed. Key members and organizers participated in detailed discussions about the event, including Senior Vice President VP Jasim Uddin, Joint General Secretary Arifur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Rouch Uddin, former Joint Convener Badrul Haque Azad, Dewan Kawsar, Humayun Kabir, Ashraf Hossain, journalist Anisur Rahman, and Alamin Suman, President of the Mosharraf Foundation.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized the importance of unified efforts and called upon all patriotic expatriates to lend their full support to ensure the success of the program.
Additionally, it was reported that Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) USA will also organize various events in observance of the death anniversary.
Continuing a tradition from previous years, residents of Jackson Heights, under the banner of “Jackson Heights Area Residents,” are also planning to distribute food and offerings (tabarruk) to mark the occasion.
